I bought my first used car with airbags - 97 Mazda Protege. All my other cars over the years NEVER had airbags. Is there any kind of a switch to 'deactivate' the airbags when servicing this car or most cars with airbags ? My Haynes manual mentions nothing of the kind.

The only reason I ask is due to the fact that my neighbor has a Lincoln Town car and there is a switch to ( I assume) deactivate the airbags when he jacks up the car. Supposedly it is recommended in the Lincoln manual. I assume it deactivates the airbags. I don't know what else it could do. The switch is in the trunk in a hole into which you insert your finger to turn it on and off. It is NOT the switch that controls the fuel pump in the event of a rollover but LOOKS very similar.

Actually, most cars have a harness, not sure where it is, that when you disconnect it, the airbags are disableeed... It is usually really bright coloured (florescent or something)..
