To all civic gurus!
I am interested swapping my stock D15B7 SOHC 16 valve 106 HP engine with another D15 VTEC SOHC 130 HP JDM engine. Here are my question to you all.
This engine comes with trany, alternator, wire harness, mainfold, flywheel, and starter. The stuffs missing are ECU, AC compressor and motor Mounting Kit.
Before I decide to buy I like to do some research. I am sure some of you may have done something like this before. Here are my concerns: (1) Can I use my current ECU or do I need one for VTEC? (2) Do I need different 4 prong oxygen sensors/header? (3) Is there any difference in JDM AC Compressor vs. USDM AC Compressor? (4) Do I need to find a TACH/GAUGE cluster for VTEC (I am assuming the redline are different). (5) Is there anything I can salvage from my non-vtec engine. It has 140K on it. (6) Will there be a big difference in parts requirements if I get a DOHC VTEC with 170HP?
Finally, what is the average time it takes to complete the swap. A local mechanic has estimated two full days and the labor is $900.
Any help is appreciated. If you guys know any books/CDs/Web Links on this I am really thankful...
