The Clunkers for Cash bill will be signed this week probably by Obama, and become part of our lives in the near future. My initial reaction to this bill wasn’t to favorable, I have a big problem with our throw away culture, and wish things were made to last like they once were, cars included. But after giving it some thought I changed my mind. It is more along the lines of the government taking responsibility and action in order to cut the pollution levels from our to big greedy cars.

This could kickstart the lowering of vehicle pollution by far, helping people green their habits.

According to Kicking Tires these are the main points

  • Cars rated at 18 mpg or lower in combined city and highway driving could be turned in for cash vouchers good toward the purchase of a new car. New cars rated at least 4 mpg higher would earn a $3,500 voucher, while a 10 mpg improvement would earn a $4,500 voucher.
  • Trucks (including vans and most SUVs) are eligible, but the new vehicle must average at least 18 mpg and get at least 2 more mpg than the old vehicle to qualify for the $3,500 voucher. Five more mpg would earn a $4,500 voucher.
  • All old vehicles will be scrapped, so consumers will want to check the trade-in value of their old car before they participate.

What do you think? Good Idea or not so much?

If I had  a spare $90,000 - $110000, I might just get myself a 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-class / S550 / S600 for the fun of it

Its not the sexiest car around, but as I said, if I had the change, why not spoil myself with this Zero to 60 mph: 4.2-5.3 sec, 7-speed automatic with manumatic shifting  / 5-speed  automatic with manumatic shifting car?

Sexy isn’t everything, great handling, safe, fast and pampering also go a long way. If I wasn’t sure about this before I read Car and Drivers Review, I sure am now.

Now all I need is the cash!

Its one thing to read reviews that are plentiful on all sorts of car review sites and magazines. They usually deal with the technical details and so one, which is all very good and well, but it doesn’t do much for a lot of people as far as how the day to day pluses and minuses of the car are.

That is why I was particularly happy to find this review of the Ford Ka on Auto Trader. a short but comprehensive review after a few days scooting around town in the Ford Ka.

What more can I possibly say - The first thing that comes to mind is kind of embarassing on acount of how girly it is,

but I do love the color :-)
