The legal speed limit in Montana, unless otherwise signed, is 75mph on Interstates and 70mph elsewhere, for passenger cars and light trucks. However, there are only about 100 hwy patrol squad cars across the entire state, probably mostly around the larger towns. Stationary speed traps are rare in Montana, so although there is now a 75mph limit, there is only light enforcement. probably at a steady 60something mph or so, not 80+mph. And it`s a 2.2L 4 cylinder turbo engine, not a V6, so go figure. ever expect such smart safety measures to be implemented in North America any time soon. The mantra here is "Johnny go slow `n` live". No wonder so many young people (and maybe people in general) drive too fast for conditions on bad roads or in residential areas, do dangerous maneuvers and drive recklessly in general. We need better education, not more "speed kills" propaganda.

Never been pulled over in New England for speeding, only in Florida.

U.S., at least based on my (admittedly limited) experience there.
Besides, fwiw, bare tires may actually be slightly *better* on perfectly dry pavement. Wet roads, though, fergit it. :}

The stock Buick stuff is way too soft for that...
Driven thru Montana twice so far - once in 96 - average speed - 95+ (until I blew the Fiero up) and once in 01 - average speed about 80-100. ... during the day it`s a dream drive in a TA with a radar detector. At night, do the speed limit. Way too many deer out there.

85 or 90mph. Much beyond that, though, and stability will suffer insufferably so the N body suspension is evidently not designed for sustained cruising speeds over about 90mph or so. Below that it`s basically fine for a reasonably competent driver, imo. probably too fast anyway... :o

Neither do 4800 rpm sustained and plastic timing gears. oops. Other than a 90-100 mph crusing speed on american interstates IS the secondary purpose of that car. Big smoky burnouts is the first purpose. been smacked by a rig will make you thankful for big stuff. Big brakes, big sticky tires. I don`t scare easy on the highway - that one scared the crap out of me. 10pm, 70 in a 65 zone - about to pass a rig that smacks a deer. Hard on the brakes, swerve, it`s still spinning as I pass by, wife doesn`t see it out the windshield - but she does see it out the side window. Stop at next town, find hotel.
Did I mention I now consider the WS6 (Ram Air) package on my car as a safety device?
